PORT MATILDA – Roadway improvement work will get under way next week on Route 322 (Port Matilda Mountain) in Centre County, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Work is expected to begin Monday.
The project will improve the driving surface of the road while bringing drainage and guide rail upgrades. Signage and message boards for the project are in place and work is expected to start next week, weather permitting.
The work zone stretches along Route 322 from the Philipsburg State Police Barracks to the Port Matilda Mountain four-lane section. Pipe replacement and inlet work will begin next week with paving and guide rail work to follow in April and May.
Traffic control will feature an alternating traffic pattern during daylight hours, with flaggers in the roadway. Travel delays are likely.
PennDOT expects the project to finish by the end of May, with all work weather and schedule dependent. New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company Inc. is the contractor on this $1.1 million job.
Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution, watch for flaggers in the roadway, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
