Obituary Notice: Doris L. Shaffer

Doris L. Shaffer, 89, of DuBois died Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at Penn Highlands DuBois surrounded by her loving family

Born July 23, 1926, in Reynoldsville, she was the daughter of the late H. Stanley and Nelda (Holmann) Marshall.

On Oct. 1, 1948, she married William E. “Red” Shaffer.  He preceded her in death on May 7, 1988.

She worked at Bell Telephone, Penn Traffic and Rainguard Inc.  She was an avid reader and bridge player.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and ceramics.  She was also an avid Steeler fan and she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports.  One of her favorite sayings was “God Bless You.”

She was a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.  She and her husband, Red, taught CCD classes at St. Catherine’s back in the 1980’s for many years.

She is survived by her children, Mark Shaffer and his wife, Patricia of DuBois, William Shaffer and his wife, Karen Berkey-Shaffer of Brockway, Apryl Pernesky and her husband, Edward of Falls Creek and Laura Foltz and her husband, Steve of Eighty Four.

She is survived by seven grandchildren, Lisa Shaffer Gunsallus of Penfield; Brian S. Shaffer and Matthew J. Pernesky and his wife, Tracy, both of DuBois; Edward W. Pernesky and his wife, Deanna of Irvine, Calif.; Joseph Shaffer of New York City, NY; Brock Berkey and his wife, Jessica of Bradenburg, Ky.; and Holly Berkey of Brookville.

She is survived by four great-grandchildren, Brittany Gunsallus of Pittsburgh, Bryce Pernesky of Irvine, Calif., and Haley Pernesky and Madison Pernesky, both of DuBois; two brothers, LaMont Marshall of DuBois and Gerald Marshall and his wife, Mary of St. Marys; and two sisters, Linda Marshall of DuBois and Rebecca Anthony and her husband, Ronald of Brookville.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Shaffer and her siblings, Billis Burnworth, James “Jimmy” Marshall, Louise Stine and Donald Marshall.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. A scriptural wake service will be prayed at 1:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.

Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.
