PETA tries to pull the rabbit out of Ivanka Trump’s hat

Animal rights activists are criticizing Ivanka Trump for her fashion line’s use of fur from rabbits allegedly raised, slaughtered and skinned in China.

Citing the grisly findings of an “exposé deep inside the [Chinese] rabbit-fur industry,” People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals on Tuesday sent Donald Trump’s eldest daughter a letter expressing its disappointment that she had continued to sell “hats with pompoms on them made of real rabbit fur from China.”

“On behalf of kind people everywhere, and because animals suffer so terribly in the production of fur, we urge you to pull all real fur immediately and pledge never to wear or work with it again,” wrote PETA cofounder and president Ingrid E. Newkirk in a letter posted on the animal rights group’s website.

Trump’s “Genuine Rabbit Fur Pom Cable Knit Beanie” is currently available for $22.97 — a 49% discount from its normal price — on the Nordstrom Rack website.

According to the product description, the hat’s “body” is listed as “100% acrylic” while the “trim” is made from “genuine rabbit fur (origin: China).”

Emails to Ivanka Trump’s publicist and Donald Trump’s campaign were not immediately returned.
