DUBOIS – OAG Management, in association with the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League (WPAL), announces the return of the Golden Gloves Championships to the DuBois area for the fourth consecutive year.
And this year’s event will feature numerous local prospects, products of the recently-opened boxing and fitness center in DuBois.
The DuBois Country Club, recovered and “bigger and better than ever” after a devastating fire destroyed it two years ago, will welcome boxers and fans to this year’s event March 19. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Boxing will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“The evening will feature approximately eight live bouts ranging from first round to semi-final fights in various weight classes and divisions,” Aaron Beatty, co-chairman of the WPAL Boxing and Fitness Center Committee, said. “The fights are sure to be intense!”
“This year, we are thrilled to be training our own team of fighters who are hoping to compete in the 2016 Golden Gloves Tournament,” Co-chairman Scott Brigger said.
Coached by former Professional Heavyweight Boxer, James Northey of Brookville and Founder of Team Alpha Genetics, Matthew Craig of DuBois, Dakota Herman, Brian Elias Jr., Kaitlin States and Chelsea Busatto of DuBois, Jennifer Young and Andy Floravit of St. Marys, Dave Blystone and Chris Rosetti of Punxsutawney and Nick Gordon of Reynoldsville, have all been training since October for their chance to compete.
The winners will advance to the next round of the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves tournament. All open division boxers are fighting to earn their spot to represent the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Boxing Team at the 2016 National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 15-22.
Tickets for the event are $20 for General Admission (seat not guaranteed), $30 for Reserved Seating and $100 for VIP Gold Ringside. VIP Gold Ringside tickets include a complimentary Pre-Party and Swag Bag.
