Walter S. Engel, 84, of Winburne died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at the Alleghany General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born April 23, 1931 in Munich, Germany, he was the son of the late Maria Engel. He worked in radio communications for 35 years for the U.S. Information Agency, United States of America, Voice of America.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, No. 941, Grassflat; the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club and the Cooper Township Sportsmen’s Club.
Mr. Engel was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to hike and climbed the Alps. He was a world traveler. Mr. Engel loved children, and children loved him.
He is survived by his companion of 18 years, Charlene Green of Winburne. He is survived by a daughter, Tonia Kephart and her husband, Jason of Lanse and a step-son, Lawrence Paul and his companion, Jessica Juliano of Osceola Mills.
He is also survived by a grandson, Cody Kephart, and a granddaughter, Lily Juliano and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Engel was preceded in death by his mother.
A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, with the Dr. Rev. Earl R. Shawley officiating. Burial will be in the Messiah Baptist Cemetery, Kylertown.
There will not be any public visitation.
