Forfeits Give Golden Tide 42-22 Win Over Rams

JOHNSONBURG — The Curwensville Area High School wrestling team won only one of the five contested bouts but received six forfeits to register a 42-22 victory over Johnsonburg.

Sophomore 126-pounder Dylan Myers pinned Christopher Kennedy at the 3:16 mark for the Golden Tide, who stand 8-11 after their second three-meet winning streak of the season.

Seth Woolcock (120), Shae Bloom (152), Tristan Bressler (170), Ben Junod (182), Jeff Harvey (195) and Hunter Lancaster (220) were the forfeit recipients.

“There wasn’t a lot of wrestling, but we tried to match up the best we could,” Curwensville coach Dean Swatsworth said. “Dylan wrestled hard and got us the fall.

In the only bout that went the distance, the Rams’ Jacob Zimmerman major decisioned Mason Lancaster 13-3.

“Mason’s match was hard fought, but Zimmerman wrestled a good match,” Swatsworth said.

The Golden Tide’s Logan Charles at 160 and Steven McClure at 285 were fall victims, both after being moved up a weight.

“We bumped Logan up because we wanted to see that match-up, but it didn’t end up in our favor this time,” Swatsworth explained. “We also bumped Steven up to heavyweight, and although he was giving up a lot of weight, he went out and got that all-important first takedown. He just got too high and was pulled under, resulting in a fall.

“Overall, we saw some good and bad in every match we wrestled. We just have to keep working, because we are getting better.”

Johnsonburg (3-20) also picked up one forfeit, and there were no bouts at three weights.

Curwensville closes the dual meet schedule with a trip to Brockway Thursday.

Johnsonburg won the junior high meet 36-21.
