Bernie Sanders tastes ‘the Yearn’

Bernie feels “the Yearn.” Or at least, he tasted it.

On ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders had a chance to try ice cream called “Bernie’s Yearning.”

Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen created 40 pints of the ice cream in his own kitchen in honor of Sanders, who is his favorite presidential candidate.

On “The View,” one of the hosts, Raven-Symoné, told Sanders that she is thankful that he is “classy” while “standing up for people like me, of color, sexual orientation, and everything else.”

“But you have your own flavor of ice cream, just to lighten up the mood,” Symoné says to cheers from the crowd.

She handed over a pint-sized tub with a spoon to the Vermont senator.

“I’m tasting this for the very first time,” Sanders told Symoné. “This is good … Excellent, really good. I’m not just saying that because it’s ‘Bernie’s yearning.’ “

Last October, Cohen told CNN’s Carol Costello that Sanders’ ice cream would be mint flavored, and topped with a giant chocolate chip that “represents all the wealth that’s gone to the top 1% of the population over the past 10 years.”

“And the way you eat it is that you whack it with your spoon, then you mix it around. That’s the ‘Bernie’s Yearning,’ ” Cohen said.

The ice cream company is based in Vermont and has been outspoken on political issues. Cohen personally endorsed Sanders and participated in the launch of his presidential bid in Burlington, Vermont.
