Rubio spokesman: Obama ‘intentionally’ trying to destroy America

Marco Rubio believes President Barack Obama is “intentionally” trying to destroy America, the Florida senator’s communications director said Tuesday.

Asked by CNN’s Chris Cuomo if the senator believes Obama is “intentionally trying to destroy the country,” Rubio spokesman Alex Conant said, “Absolutely.”

“All evidence confirms that,” Conant said on CNN’s “New Day.” “He intentionally passed Obamacare. He intentionally passed Dodd-Frank. He intentionally went into this crazy deal with Iran — the nuclear deal. He’s absolutely trying to make America more like the rest of the world.”

“Marco is running for president because he believes America is a special place and he wants to keep it a special place,” he said.

Conant asserted that all Republicans would agree with Rubio that Obama is purposefully trying to destroy America.

“He is. I think that most Republicans, I think that all Republicans would agree with that. Barack Obama has been an incredibly divisive president precisely because of this,” he said. “Because he goes around the world apologizing for America. Because he passes policies that are trying to change our country. That’s why he’s so unpopular. That’s why he’s a failed president. It’s why we have to elect a Republican in 2016.”

Rubio trails GOP front-runner Donald Trump in New Hampshire polling, where voters are casting ballots on Tuesday.

Another rival, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, took aim at the Florida senator on CNN’s “New Day,” saying Rubio’s resume is not that different from Obama’s.

“I like Marco Rubio. He’s a nice guy. He may have a great future. His future is just not now,” he told CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “Our country is too messed up to put somebody in there who is a first-term United States senator after coming off seven years of a first-term United States senator, who’s never managed anything. Neither has Sen. Rubio.”

Christie said he did not attack Rubio personally in the most recent debate, but aimed to highlight that the senator is not yet prepared to defeat Democrats and the lead the U.S.

“On Saturday night, Sen. Rubio didn’t perform and I did and that means I’ll perform against Hillary Clinton,” Christie said.
