Today is the biggest day for Super Bowl ads

The Super Bowl may be the most-watched event in America, but the ads have their biggest moment after the game.

Historically, the Monday following the big game is when digital viewership for Super Bowl ads peaks, according to YouTube. People watch and re-watch ads online, sharing and commenting about them on social media. The ads and their teasers have been watched 330 million times so far on YouTube.

And If you missed an ad when you got up to refill your plate with queso dip, you can still join in on Monday’s water cooler conversation.

People watch ads on YouTube during the game as well. For the first time in history, more people (60%) watched Super Bowl ads on YouTube using smartphones and tablets rather than PCs, Google said.

People spent a combined 300,000 hours watching ads on YouTube during the Super Bowl.

Before and after the game, Super Bowl ads have been watched for more than 4 million hours, as brands get savvy about teasing and pre-releasing their ads. The number of Super Bowl ads posted to YouTube ahead of the game rose by 25% over last year, Google said.

The most-watched ad on YouTube so far is Hyundai’s “The Chase,” in which two hikers, chased by bears, start their Hyundai Elantra using a smartwatch and just barely escape (the bears were impressed). The ad has been viewed more than 18 million times on YouTube so far.

These are the top 10 most-viewed Super Bowl ads on YouTube, according to Google:

1. Hyundai – The Chase

2. Pokémon – #Pokemon20

3. Mini – #DefyLabels

4. Hyundai – First Date

5. Mountain Dew – Mtn Dew Kickstart (Puppymonkeybaby)

6. Axe – Find Your Magic

7. Hyundai – Ryanville

8. Doritos – Ultrasound

9. Snickers – Marilyn

10. Doritos – Doritos Dogs

Interestingly, the ad with the most social buzz aired before and after — but not during — the Super Bowl. Esurance’s commercial, which advertised a $1 million sweepstakes, was tweeted about just under 1 million times on Sunday, according to Amobee Brand Intelligence.

Doritos was in a distant second in terms of social media mentions, with just over a quarter million.
