CLEARFIELD — Members of the business program at the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center already know what it feels like to be successful in business. The school’s store recently earned DECA’s School-Based Enterprise (SBE) Gold Level Certification.
SBEs can be certified at three levels: Bronze, Silver or Gold. In order to apply for the certification, SBEs must submit extensive documentation that demonstrates their adherence to various marketing and retail standards in ten areas: financial analysis, operations, marketing-information management, market planning, product/service management, pricing, distribution/channel management, promotion, selling, and human resource management.
After the written manual is submitted, a review committee evaluates the documentation to determine which level of certification has been achieved.
Earning Gold Certification qualifies three students to participate in the exclusive SBE Academy and competition held annually at DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC). This year’s competition will be held from April 23-26 in Nashville, Tenn.
The CCCTC school store is operated by students in the business program and serves as a learning laboratory for concepts taught as part of the program’s curriculum. The store is open to students, faculty and staff twice daily, with morning students operating it in from 10 a.m. -10:30 a.m., and afternoon students running it from 1:15 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.
Profit from the store goes to offset expenses of DECA competitions and conferences.
