ML Champion Bison Thump Mounties 75-27

PHILIPSBURG — The Clearfield Area High School boys basketball team capped its first Mountain League championship run with a 75-27 win over Philipsburg-Osceola Friday night.

Leading scorer Will Myers, bouncing back from a tough outing against Penns Valley Wednesday night, rippled the nets for 26 points in his 50th career double-figure performance, while Evan Brown and Cody Spaid provided plenty of support with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Myers, who also had seven rebounds, and Brown each had four of the Bison’s nine makes from behind the arc.

Spaid pulled down 15 rebounds for a double-double, and Ryan Lezzer registered five assists.

“It was a great team effort,” coach Nate Glunt said, noting the Bison had a wide margin in rebounds. “There was no letdown after the big win against Penns Valley, which I was concerned about. They took this game seriously and played hard.”

The Bison roared out of the chute for a 22-6 lead after one quarter and maintained that pace for a 45-26 halftime bulge with Myers (16), Brown (14) and Spaid (11) leading the way.

A 20-point third quarter set the running clock in motion for the final eight minutes.

Peyton Guelich provided the bulk of the Philipsburg-Osceola offense with 17 points.

The Mounties tumbled to 1-12 in the league and 3-18 overall.

Philipsburg-Osceola’s junior varsity won the prelim 54-50. Johny Gates topped Clearfield with 20 points and Isaac Rumery added 14.

Clearfield (19-2) will close the regular season at Curwensville Monday night.
