Twitter’s most famous story is reportedly getting the Franco treatment.
Variety reports that James Franco is set to direct a movie based on the Twitter tale by Azia “Zola” Wells. Wells set social media afire in October 2015 after she tweeted a tale of traveling to Florida for a stripping gig that included intrigue, relationship drama and an alleged attempted murder.
There was much debate at the time as to whether the tweets were at all fictitious. The film will be based on “Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind the Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted,” which was a story about what actually happened written by David Kushner for Rolling Stone.
According to Variety, the script will be written by Andrew Neel and Mike Roberts, and produced by Franco and Vince Jolivette through their Rabbit Bandini Productions in cooperation with Killer Films and Gigi Films.
Franco and Neel’s most recent collaboration was the Sundance contender “Goat,” which starred Nick Jonas and was directed by Neel.
