Albert “Pipe” Carfley, of Curwensville died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. Born in Curwensville, he was the son of Patsy and Katherine (Barbato) Carfley.

Mr. Carfley was the co-owner and operator of Curwensville Distributing Co. for more than 40 years until retiring in 1990.

He had also worked at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville.

He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of the Second World War. He received a Purple Heart.

Mr. Carfley was a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville.

He was a former elected member of the Curwensville Area School District Board of Directors.

He was a life member of the former Curwensville Sons of Italy and of the Rescue Hose & Ladder Co. in Curwensville.

He was also a member of Family Center No. 268 Curwensville LOOM, Post 842 Curwensville Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 505 Curwensville American Legion and Aerie Lodge No. 812 Clearfield Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He was an avid sponsor of Curwensville Area Youth Sports teams and activities. He was Curwensville’s No. 1 University of Notre Dame sports fan.

On Aug. 17, 1957, he wed the former Margaret “Peggy” Morgan, who survives, along with three children, J. Rick Carfley and his wife, Rhonda and Cindy Donahue and her husband, Dave, both of Curwensville, and Bryan Carfley and his wife, Melissa of Marian, SC.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dana, Andrew, Katie, Adam, Zach, Alexa and Ryan and seven great-grandchildren, Addison, Wyatt, Aiden, Brady, A.J., Chase and Bella.

Mr. Carfley was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Mose, Louis, Samuel, Raymond, Michael and Tony and two sisters, Bessie and Elizabeth.  He was the last member of his generation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant.  Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville.

The Rosary will be recited by members of the St. Timothy Altar and Rosary Society at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home.
