Political Prediction Market: Trump leads GOP pack with 46% for nomination

Less than a week out from the Iowa Caucuses, Donald Trump’s chances for the Republican nomination are the highest among the GOP pack, at 46%, according to CNN’s Political Prediction Market.

Trump peaked on the Political Prediction Market Monday morning with odds at 48%, almost beating Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s record, who had the highest chances for the nomination ever with 49% last November.

CNN’s Political Prediction Market is a game, administered by the company Pivit, which allows Internet users to predict outcomes of the 2016 election. It also factors polls and other elements into its data, but the game is not to be confused with polls from real voters.

In Iowa, where the Caucuses will be held on Monday, February 1, Trump’s odds have increased from 28% to 54% this week. Meanwhile, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is a close second for the Hawkeye State with his chances at 46%.

In the latest CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday, Trump is well ahead of the rest of the pack for the GOP nomination. According to the poll, more than four out of 10 Republican voters nationwide say they are backing the real estate mogul. Trump leads the Republican pack with 41%, and Cruz comes in second place with less than half of that support at 19%.

Despite Trump’s strong lead for the nomination, Democrats still lead in CNN’s Political Prediction Market for winning the presidency with 60%, compared to Republicans’ 40%. Two weeks ago, Democrats’ chances were at 58%.

On CNN’s Political Prediction Market, Hillary Clinton’s chances for the Democratic nomination are still ahead of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, 80% to 18%. In the Market for Iowa, Clinton and Sanders are much more neck-and-neck to win the state — Clinton’s odds are at 52% and Sanders is at 48%.

In the latest CNN/ORC poll for Democrats, Clinton is still winning in the race for the party’s nomination, but her nationwide lead over Sanders is shrinking, with their odds at 52% to 38%, respectively.
