CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. honored 32 Tax-Aide volunteers with a breakfast on Jan. 19 at the West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield.
The breakfast was prepared and served by the ladies of the church. Each year prior to the volunteers taking their tax preparation test to become official Tax-Aide volunteer counselors, the CCAAA honors them for the time and commitment they give to the Tax-Aide program.
The volunteers have undergone training by AARP and the IRS to update their current knowledge and understanding of new rules needed for them to prepare federal, state, and local income tax forms for Clearfield County residents age 60 and older and those persons with low and middle incomes.
The Tax-Aide program is administered by three partners: the IRS, AARP and the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. The IRS provides the bulk of the training, technical support, necessary papers, and materials.
AARP assumes part of the responsibility for administration of the program and establishment of an effective liaison with the IRS offices at a national and regional level.
The CCAAA provides staff, technical support, and assistance in the selection of housing and managing of the volunteer sites as well as volunteer recruitment.
The CCAAA also provides advertising, paper forms, tracks volunteer hours, and does media coverage to insure that special emphasis is placed on reaching the elder population, shut-ins, blind, and disabled.
The Tax-Ade program has been utilizing electronic filing at all their sites in Clearfield County. This year there will be five sites available to make an appointment to have your taxes done. The program will not accept walk-ins – you must have an appointment.
There will not be a site in the DuBois area this year. The program lost the site previously used and did not have enough time to secure a new site. DuBois residents can make an appointment at the Clearfield site or any other site in the county.
