Meet Spock, the housecat mistaken for a bobcat

See Spock. See Spock sit. See Spock scare the hell out of the neighbor who thinks he’s looking at a freaking bobcat.

Welcome to the San Jose, California, life of Spock the cat, a 27-pound, nearly 4-foot-long Maine Coon making waves on the Internet after CNN affiliate KGO and other outlets carried reports about him.

“One person chastised me for having a wild animal in the house, saying that they thought it was a bobcat,” the San Jose Mercury News quoted owner Colleen Pizarev as saying. “I said, ‘Look, there’s a tail, it’s not a bobcat. Trust me, it’s a regular cat.’ “

Truth be told, she’s not alone in having to explain such things. The Maine Coon is known as the largest breed of domesticated cat in the world. They often reach 25 pounds or more and look even bigger with their dense, fluffy fur meant to shield them from the harsh Northeastern winters.

Pizarev says Spock has a personality even bigger than he is. He opens doors on his own, watches YouTube for entertainment and has a penchant for breaking anything that’s not nailed down, she told KGO.

“It’s a lot like having a toddler in the house,” Pizarev said.
