Doris Jean Solomon, 64, of Dover, Del., died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born in Philipsburg on April 21, 1951 and grew up in Houtzdale. She was the daughter of the late Boyd and Delores (Srock) Decker.

She graduated from the Moshannon Valley High School in 1969. She attended Career Academy in Washington, D.C. and worked as a dental assistant in numerous dental offices for more than 30 years.

On June 8, 1974, she was united in marriage to Marvin E. Solomon and resided in Clearfield.

Mrs. Solomon retired in 2004 and relocated to Dover, Del.

Collecting recipes and spending lots of time in the kitchen meant that grandkids and friends alike would soon be enjoying her treats. Time spent with family or friends was always so very special to her.

She soon became active in charitable endeavors. Becoming an officer in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks allowed Mrs. Solomon to become involved with her community and touch the hearts of so many people.

She had a passion for bettering the lives of veterans, youth and those in need and for sharing her friendship and enthusiasm for life in connecting and building loving relationships.

Wife, mother, grammy or Friend: Mrs. Solomon wore each title with dignity, grace and love.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Marv; two children, Matthew and his wife, Jody of Fremont, Ohio, and Meagan Solomon Rodgers of Holmdel, NJ.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Bo and Max Solomon; Mara and Myles Rodgers and Ricki Baker.

She is also survived by her sister, Cheryl Zelenky and her husband, Dennis of Washington, NC; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as, aunts, uncles and close friends.

Mrs. Solomon felt privileged and blessed to have her family and her friends in constant contact with her during her recent illness. It was her faith in God that was her rock and her hope and strength during these trying months. This strong faith leaves us with hope of being with her again.

With her passing, we are reminded that life is to be celebrated. Please join us in honoring her life with a gathering of friends and family at 11 a.m. Jan. 30 at the Dover Elks Lodge, 200 Saulsbury Rd., Dover, DE 19904.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mrs. Solomon’s favorite charity: Code Purple, 412 N. Governors Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
