CLEARFIELD – April Kephart, a 2008 graduate from the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center’s (CCCTC) Practical Nursing program, was a finalist for the Nightingale Nursing Award for Clinical Practice LPN.
Kephart is currently employed by Penn Highlands Moshannon Valley Rural Health Clinic in Philipsburg. She says that while she was enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at CCCTC, she learned many competencies that provided her with the upper hand when looking for employment.
One thing she learned was trusting herself and having the confidence to try new things. She says the knowledge she gained at CCCTC is just what she needed to achieve her goals and the CCCTC instructors not only taught, but also cared and guided her along the way.
When asked if she would have done anything differently, Kephart said she would have gone to nursing school earlier in life, giving her more time to be a nurse.
Kephart is only one example of how CCCTC graduates use their education to strengthen the industry in their field of study.
