Bernard W. ‘Bernie’ Martell, 82, of Clearfield died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016 at the Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1933 in Croft, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Lingle) Martell.
Mr. Martell was employed all his life in the coal business, retiring in 1990 after 17 years as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of the Kerr Addition United Methodist Church, the Old Town Sportsmen’s Club and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Martell served during the Korean War.
He is survived by two sons, Marlin Martell and Sharon of Grampian and Steve Martell and his wife, Ann of Kerr Addition and a sister, Barbara Learish of Clearfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lawana A. (Mayhew) Martell, on May 17, 1993 and to whom he was wed Nov. 7, 1959 in Shawville. He was also preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Eden Cemetery, Shawville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Suite D. Altoona, PA 16601.
