There might be another Romney running for political office.
Josh Romney, the son of 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, is seriously considering a run for governor of Utah.
“Running for governor in 2020 is definitely something I am strongly considering. What others do will not affect my decision-making process,” the son of the former Republican presidential nominee said Monday, according to the Deseret News.
Romney said he’s “been consistently asked by others to consider running for political office” and will make a decision “based on what the right thing to do is and the positive ideas and solutions I could offer for the future of Utah.”
But Romney could face competition. Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz told the same publication that he wants to leave Congress and return to Utah to run for governor. The Republican is currently chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
“I’m not going to be here forever. I would take a serious, serious look at running for governor,” Chaffetz said. “I want to go as hard and fast as I can in the House and then go home.”
Josh Romney said he is currently focused on helping Utah Governor Gary Herbert win re-election in 2016.
Mitt Romney was governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 and was widely credited for his efforts to rescue the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.
