Mary Regina Hoover, 90, of Karthaus died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 at her home. She was born Dec. 3, 1925, a daughter of the late Howard G. and Julia R. ‘Nan’ (Rolley) Peavy, formerly of Karthaus.

She graduated from the Cooper Township High School. She later married Hugh “Hoot” Hoover. They made their home in Karthaus where they raised six children.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Frenchville and the Altar Rosary Society. She was employed as a nutrition aide through Penn State University for many years.

She also helped organize and work with the Head Start program in Karthaus as well as the 4-H program.

She is survived by six children, Kathleen Hoover Piper and her husband, Wayne, Michael Hoover and Mary Beth Hoover Bamat and her husband, Craig, all of Karthaus; Rosemary Hoover Workman and her husband, Richard of Clearfield; David Hoover and his wife, Rose of Clarence; and Victoria Hoover Sabol and her husband, Mark of Morrisdale.

She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ina Peavy Hugar of Franklin and Emily Kay Peavy Jury and her husband, Philip of Houserville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh ‘Hoot’ Hoover, on Sept. 27, 2007 and to whom she was wed Sept. 30, 1944 in Frenchville.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Philip E. Peavy and his wife, Isabel and a brother-in-law, Lee Hugar. She was also preceded in death by her wonderful grandson, Matthew Sabol, who was originally from Morrisdale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Frenchville, with the Rev. David A. Perry as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Frenchville.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Karthaus Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 9, Karthaus, PA 16845 or to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 159, Frenchville, PA 16845.
