Obituary Notice: Marilyn Miller Flegal

On Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, Marilyn Miller Flegal began her celebration of Christmas in the arms of Jesus. She died at home surrounded by her family.

Born Marilyn Leone Miller on Aug. 7, 1932, she was the youngest child of Raymond J. and Violet G. (Jordan) Miller. She was the last of her generation and the matriarch of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Marion, Etta I. Miller, Harold Merritt, Lurline Kautz and Little Blanche, who died in infancy.

After attending Emporium schools, she graduated from Harborcreek High School. Although she did not graduate from Emporium, she maintained life-long friendships with classmates from Emporium’s class of 1950.

On Aug. 1, 1958, she married Mitchell A. Flegal in Emporium. He preceded her in death after having passed from this life to eternity on Oct. 31, 1992.

From this union, four daughters were born, Michele (David) Perkins, Squire, W.Va., Maureen (Patrick) Reardon, of Severna Park, Md., Margie (Donald) Kelley of Severn, Md., and Mary (Gary) Buss of Harrisburg.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tim, Joe and Michael Reardon and Daniel and Leslie Kelley, as well as by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins for whom she loved deeply.

She began her working career at Sylvania, where she was a member of NHD. She then was employed at Curtiss Wright in Quehanna.

After that, she and her husband moved to Maryland where he continued teaching and coaching. She continued her career as a bookkeeper until they moved back to his family homestead near Clearfield.

She was an active member at the Spring Valley United Methodist Church. She was also a proud card-carrying member of the NRA.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with Pastor Mike Knepp officiating.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial and committal services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
