Gabler, Sankey Call on Governor to Sign Budget

HARRISBURG State Reps. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) and Tommy Sankey

(R-Clearfield/Cambria) today released the following statement upon the Senate’s bipartisan

33-17 passage of House Bill 1460, a $30.2 billion spending proposal that would provide an immediate end to the state budget impasse.

House Bill 1460 includes a $150 million increase for public schools while providing relief to taxpayers by avoiding the massive tax increases proposed by Gov. Tom Wolf.

Gabler and Sankey released the following statement in response to the Senate’s passage of the bill, which now heads to the governor’s desk for signature:

“We applaud the Senate for agreeing to send this responsible, taxpayer-friendly budget to the governor’s desk to provide an immediate end to this budget impasse before Christmas.

“This is a responsible spending plan that generously funds our government without the need for massive taxes on the income and purchases of hard-working Pennsylvanians.

“House Bill 1460 provides historic investments in our education system and full and immediate funding for our social services that have been devastated by the governor’s unprecedented full budget veto earlier this year.

“Gov. Wolf must now decide whether he wants to inflict further pain on schools and social services in our state by vetoing this bill, or stand with all Pennsylvanians who are ready to move forward in a positive direction.

“We call on him to sign this bill before he causes unnecessary school closures and wreaks further havoc on vulnerable Pennsylvanians.”
