DuBois Council Addresses CVS Rumors

DUBOIS – A resident asked members of DuBois City Council about rumors regarding the CVS Pharmacy store during Monday night’s meeting.

Solicitor Toni Cherry and City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio denied any knowledge of plans for CVS to build a standalone store in DuBois.

No paperwork had been submitted to city officials. “There have been rumors for years,” said Cherry.

Both Suplizio and Cherry expressed that they try to bring businesses into the DuBois area. However, Cherry noted that the rumored location would have been perfect for CVS.

Dennis Bembenic presented council with a request to use the City Park for the Clearfield-Jefferson seventh annual Walk for Suicide Prevention and Awareness.

He said it would be held Sept. 10, like every year falling on Suicide Prevention Week.  Bembenic said that they use the funds raised to hold educational programs in area schools.

City Redevelopment Director Joe Mitchell was also authorized to proceed to apply for a PennDOT multi-modal permit grant. It would be used for streetscape improvements along Main Street to the DuBois Penn Highlands Hospital.

“It’s just shy of two miles that would be done,” said Mitchell.

He said it would connect the hospital to DuBois City with an accessible walkway system. He said it would encompass the Beaver Meadow Walkway and extend to the Sandy Township Mall.

There were no comments made during the public hearing for DuBois City’s 2016 budget.  The next and final public hearing for the budget will take place Dec. 28 at 6:45 p.m.

Councilmembers Diane Bernardo and Randy Schmidt were excused from the meeting.
