‘House of Cards’ teases ‘special announcement’ during GOP debate

When a handful of wannabe presidents square off at Tuesday night’s Republican debate, one faux president will make a “special announcement.”

A cryptic message from the official Twitter account of the “House of Cards” set the stage.

“BREAKING NEWS: President Underwood will be making a special announcement during the #GOPDebate,” the tweet said.

That would be Frank Underwood, the diabolical president played by Kevin Spacey in the hit Netflix drama.

A Netflix spokeswoman declined to comment, but it’s widely anticipated that the “special announcement” will be a trailer for the fourth season of “House of Cards,” which will premiere sometime next year.

A release date has yet to be confirmed, though the previous three seasons each came out in February. The fourth season was announced in April.

Whatever Tuesday night’s announcement entails, it won’t be the first time “House of Cards” has intersected with real-life politics. A trailer for the show’s third season aired during this year’s State of the Union address.
