Donald Trump: We must ‘penetrate the Internet’

Donald Trump on Tuesday renewed his unique proposal for defeating the formidable ISIS online propaganda machine.

So how would he go about it? Perhaps a massive firewall, built and paid for by Mexico?

Not quite.

“This is so easy to answer,” Trump told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer at CNN’s Republican presidential primary debate in Las Vegas, explaining “we should be using the most brilliant minds” in the U.S. to “penetrate the Internet.”

“I would certainly be open to closing [the Internet] in areas where we are at war with somebody,” he added. A little later, Trump said counter terror agents should be “infiltrating [ISIS’s] Internet.”

Trump identify the specific technological process for, as he described it in the past, “closing up the internet.”

He was, however, quite clear about growing power of the ISIS web recruiting mechanism.

“ISIS is using the Internet better than we are using the Internet, and it was our idea,” Trump said. “I do not want them to use our Internet to take our young, impressionable people.”
