PSP: Unrestrained Juveniles Hospitalized after being Ejected from Caravan

HUSTON TOWNSHIP – On Monday two juveniles who were reportedly sitting on the floor at an open passenger door of a moving caravan were hospitalized after being ejected out, said the state police at DuBois.

According to state police, a vehicle operated by Michelle L. Endicott of Penfield was traveling eastbound on Ponderosa Drive, as it was turning north onto Pine Valley Drive within a mobile home park.

Upon investigation state police reportedly found both male juveniles were sitting on a floor board of the second row of seating area. Their feet were reportedly dangling outside of the right, sliding passenger door of the caravan.

When the caravan hit a pothole, one of the juveniles was ejected out. The other juvenile attempted to grab him and was also ejected from the caravan. The right, rear wheel traveled over the first ejected juvenile, state police said.

According to state police, the first juvenile sustained serious injuries as a result of being ran over by the caravan. He was transported by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. The second juvenile sustained moderate injuries and was transported to DuBois Penn Highlands Hospital.

“At the time of this news release, neither juvenile passenger is expected to have life-threatening injuries,” state police said. State police were assisted at the scene by the Penfield Fire Department, Bennetts Valley and DuSan ambulance services and Stat-Mediivac.

State police are continuing their investigation at this time.
