WOODLAND – The Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic and the Animal Welfare Council (AWC) will hold an open house for the public Tuesday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. to celebrate reaching a milestone.
Since opening, the clinic has spayed and neutered 20,000 animals saving millions of lives of animals. The clinic is located at 1380 Shawville Hwy., in Woodland (beside the Woodland Post Office).
Individuals attending the open house will have the opportunity to see the clinic facility, where not only spay and neuter procedures are performed, but also routine vaccines, micro-chipping, nail trimming, flea and tick prevention services and grooming are available. They will also get to see the pet food pantry.
There will be tours, prizes and refreshments, and the public is invited to bring pets and a camera because Santa will be available for pet photos.
Those attending are also invited to bring items from the wish list to help the animals. These items include dog food, cat food/litter, paper towels, stamps, copy paper, envelopes (business size), garbage bags (tall and 55-gallon), dog shampoo, dish detergent, soap, bleach and iodine/Betadine. Monetary donations are also appreciated in any amount.
There will be AWC T-shirts and memberships available for purchase during the open house.
The clinic is owned and operated by the Animal Welfare Council of the Alleghenies (AWC). It is a non-profit formed in 2006 by a group of individual sharing the same passion for animals.
The goal of the group is to find ways to address unmet needs in the community, along with providing pet education, straw and hay, warm dog houses and a pet food pantry to help animals in need.
In order to provide affordable spay and neuter services, in December of 2009, the AWC opened the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic in Clearfield. It soon became evident that the clinic’s services were in great demand and the initial location could not meet the growing needs.
So the AWC set out to locate another larger site where services could be provided, and in December of 2012, the clinic moved to their current location. It has undergone renovation to now house two surgery suites, a larger holding area for animals, the pet food pantry and the Animal Welfare Council office.
In April the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic also opened a satellite office in Centre Hall in partnership with Pets Come First and the Hundred Cat Foundation, which is also open to the public.
The clinic’s staff members, along with the AWC, are working closely with more than 20 local shelters and animal rescue groups to provide services to their animals. This includes a transport van, which is used to pick up animals coming to the clinic from surrounding areas for their procedures.
Business hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. For more information about the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic, please call 814-857-5280.
