CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield County Career & Technology Center DECA Chapter hosted a school-wide volleyball tournament to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Society from Oct. 27-30.
A total of 86 CCCTC students and two instructors competed in the tournament. It raised a total of $228.
Each program had the opportunity to enter one team into the tournament for both the morning and afternoon classes. Students donated $2 each to play; instructors donated $3.
The tournament was double-elimination with the championship game held Oct. 30. The winning teams, masonry for the morning session, and automotive mechanics for the afternoon session, each won a pizza party donated by the CCCTC DECA Chapter.
Clearfield Bank & Trust and Timberland Federal Credit Union also donated money toward the cause. “It was a really fun week,” said Lauren Hopkins, the CCCTC DECA Chapter advisor. “Not only did we raise money for a wonderful charity, it was also a great teambuilding activity for each of the programs that participated.”
DECA is a student organization for emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. All students in the business management and marketing program and medical office assistant program at the CCCTC are members of DECA.
