Library Advocates Ask for Continued Support

CLEARFIELD – Library advocates are asking for continued support from local municipalities.

At Thursday’s meeting, representatives from the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library asked the Clearfield Borough Council to continue their financial support of the library or increase it if possible.

The representatives discussed the many benefits of the library for young and old. The programs at the library promote literacy education through books and technology.

Additionally, the library provides services, such as a wireless hotspot, meeting rooms for clubs and non-profit organizations, quiet places for research and study and of course, books.

The library recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, which was well attended by members of the community.

Also at the meeting, Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott invited the community to attend the lighting of the community Christmas tree. The lighting ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Nov. 28 in front of the Clearfield County Courthouse.

She said this is an event that had been held in the past but was discontinued. She said many residents have said that they are happy that the community Christmas tree tradition has returned.

Stott also said that in addition to the lighting of the tree, there will be music provided by the CAST Community Choir, hot chocolate provided by the Salvation Army, and cookies and pastries provided by the Culinary Arts students at the Clearfield County Career & Technology Center.
