Residents Reminded that Riverwalk is for Pedestrians

CLEARFIELD – Residents of Clearfield are reminded that the riverwalk is for pedestrians only.

At Thursday’s Clearfield Borough Council meeting, Police Chief Vince McGinnis, Mayor Jim Shell and Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said there have been vehicles parking on the platform area of the riverwalk near the handicapped parking area.

McGinnis said the area just off Pine and Williams streets is not designed for vehicles, and he is concerned that a vehicle may drift off the platform and end up in the river.

Councilman Tim Winters said there will be signs placed warning residents not to park there.

Stott said she spoke with the street department about putting up bollards or other barriers to prevent vehicles from parking on the platform.

Winters said the walkway is now open, but he cautioned residents to stay on the paved portion of the walkway. He said workers have just completed the landscaping work, and pedestrians need to stay off these areas so the vegetation can grow.

Schell said the riverwalk is being built to be used by the community and asked that those using it treat it with respect. He also asked residents to report any vandalism or issues.

Also at the meeting, the council reminded residents that leaf pick-up is ending this week. The borough is still providing curb-side pick-up, but residents must bag their leaves in biodegradable bags if they want them picked up. Residents can also take their leaves to the compost site for disposal.
