Obituary Notice: Leo P.”Litts” Mikelonis

Leo P.”Litts” Mikelonis, 100, of DuBois died Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 at his home.

Born April 19, 1915, he was the son of the late Anthony and Veronica (Stepanouskas) Mikelonis.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

On Aug. 30, 1947, he married Sara L. (Carmella) Mikelonis.  She preceded him in death on April 30, 2011.

He was a self-employed tailor and owned A.B. Mikelonis Tailor from 1932-1968.  After retirement, he was a bartender at the Litts Club from 1968 until 1980.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.  He was a member of the former Lithuanian Independence Club and the Pulaski Club.

He was a life member of the Goodwill Hose Co. No. 5. He was honored at this past year’s Community Days celebration as the oldest active member of the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a well-known bowler and spent many years competing in the Fireman’s League.  He was also a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

He is survived by his children, Gail Boyles of DuBois and Paul Mikelonis of Clifton, Ariz., one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Rokosky, Ann Voyten and Geraldine Mikelonis and three brothers, John Stradofsky, Eugene Mikelonis, and Anthony Mikelonis Jr.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Kresinski as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
