“Twin Peaks” fans have been waiting nearly 25 years, and they’ll have to wait a little bit longer.
CBS CEO Les Moonves confirmed on Tuesday that the revived “Twin Peaks” would not premiere on Showtime until 2017.
CBS is the parent company of Showtime, which originally aimed for and promoted a 2016 premiere for “Peaks.”
What would essentially be the third season of the cult favorite series has weathered a lot since it was first announced, with creator David Lynch backing out and subsequently returning to the project.
But never fear, fans: series star Kyle MacLachlan confirms that production of the show is well underway.
“We’ve been filming in the Seattle area,” MacLachlan told CNN, in a recent interview about his role in the Blu-Ray release of Disney/Pixar’s hit movie “Inside Out.”
“I was up there the other day filming and it was a beautiful experience; so much fun to work with David Lynch again, it’s been a long time. It was a fun reunion to see the people I haven’t worked with in 25 years, that was pretty special.”
The actor has kept busy in the past 25 years, not only doing voice acting for “Inside Out,” but performing in memorable roles on shows like “Portlandia,” “Desperate Housewives” and “How I Met Your Mother.”
MacLachlan also revealed that he was on the set in late September when Lynch shared the sad news about the death of Catherine Coulson, a beloved actress from the original series.
“Catherine was part of David Lynch’s creative world for a long time, so I know it was a real loss for him,” he said.
Another actor from the original series is also coming back, according to Deadline, which reported that Miguel Ferrer would be reprising his role as FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield.
