Hearings Scheduled for Boot Camp Escapees

CLEARFIELD – Preliminary hearings have been scheduled in Clearfield County for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 10 for the two inmates who have been charged with escaping from the Quehanna Boot Camp in Karthaus on Sunday, according to court documents.

Nicholas Guido, 30, and Trent Robert Maffei, 20, have both been charged with escape, F3, by the Clearfield-based state police. Both are now incarcerated in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, at approximately 12:50 p.m. Sunday, Guido and Maffei escaped from the State Correctional Institution at the Quehanna Boot Camp in Karthaus.

Guido and Maffei were both inmates at the boot camp. Guido and Maffei were ordered to the Quehanna Boot Camp by the Courts of Common Pleas in Allegheny and Juniata counties, respectively.

Guido and Maffei were each serving 24-month State Intermediate Punishment (SIP) sentences. Guido was sentenced for a burglary with no person present in Allegheny County and Maffei for possession with intent to deliver in Juniata County.

Guido and Maffei were with other inmates outside within the boot camp property on Sunday. Both were allegedly observed running to a black Sedan that parked off of Route 1011. Both Guido and Maffei entered the vehicle, which then fled north.

State police allegedly believed Guido and Maffei were in the Harrisburg area following their escape and with Blondena Marie Thompson, 19, of Hummelstown. Thompson has been charged with two counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution by Newport-based state police and is incarcerated in the Perry County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.

State police told the Carlisle Sentinel that Thompson allegedly allowed Guido and Maffei to use a phone, as well as provided them with transportation. All three were allegedly located by authorities in Thompson’s vehicle on Monday.
