A new Monmouth University poll released Monday shows Republican candidate Donald Trump maintaining his lead in the GOP New Hampshire primary, but challenger Marco Rubio has tripled his support since September.
Trump is in the lead with 26% of the vote in the latest survey, 10 percentage points ahead of his closest competitor retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson. Rubio was in third place at 13%, but that’s up from 4% from the last Monmouth New Hampshire poll in September. In contrast, both Carson and Trump dropped from September.
Rubio’s favorability rating also rose since September, climbing from 50% to 62%, coming after a widely praised debate performance last week.
Right behind Rubio is Ohio Gov. John Kasich in fourth place with 11%.
Towards the end of October, Carson knocked Trump from his leading position in Iowa, with polls from Des Moines Register and Quinnipiac showing the retired neurosurgeon ahead by 8 or 9 percentage points. A national poll from CBS News/New York Times also found Carson leading nationally instead of the real estate mogul.
Carson’s favorability rating has dropped 9 percentage points since the last Monmouth poll, down from 73% to 64%.
Jeb Bush’s support is unchanged at 7%, behind Trump, Carson, Rubio, Kasich and Sen. Ted Cruz.
The Monmouth University poll surveyed 410 likely voters in New Hampshire’s Republican primary between October 28 and November 1, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
