Donald Trump said Monday he is confident NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” will not “dump” him from the show’s lineup, a move several prominent Hispanic groups are urging.
The Republican presidential contender said he doesn’t “see that at all” happening and said he believes he has a better relationship with Hispanics in the U.S. than the Hispanic advocacy groups that are calling on NBC to cancel his appearance on SNL.
The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, a coalition of Hispanic advocacy groups, is urging NBC to nix Trump from its November 7 show when the GOP front-runner is set to make his first appearance on the program as a presidential candidate. Trump has previously appeared before he formally entered politics.
Trump this summer called undocumented Mexican immigrants “rapists” and “killers” as he launched his presidential bid, quickly drawing a mixture of ire and support as he pushed on with his presidential campaign.
“These groups are out for themselves,” Trump said Monday morning on Fox News, before adding that he is “leading in the polls with Hispanics” and has “thousands of Hispanics who work for me.”
NBC previously severed its business ties to Trump by backing out this summer of its broadcasting role for the Miss Universe pageant amid Trump’s controversial comments about undocumented Mexican immigrants.
Trump added that SNL’s ratings would be “through the roof” on the night he appears on the program.
