CLEARFIELD – Could the Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township become Clearfield County’s next city? A public meeting has been scheduled to find out.
At Thursday’s regular meeting, resident Ron Lizotte questioned members of the Clearfield Borough Council about rumors he had heard about the meeting.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said that the meeting will be held at the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School at 7 p.m., Oct. 28.
The possibility is not something new to the two municipalities. Both the borough council and the Lawrence Township Supervisors have discussed consolidating and studies have been conducted in the past.
According to Stott, in February or March, the borough received an Early Intervention grant, which was used to hire the Pennsylvania Economy League, to study the potential for a consolidation.
Stott said there has been a lot of information gathered, and the league is ready to present their preliminary findings. Stott said the presentation will be open to the public.
However, Stott said the borough will be meeting with the borough employees to discuss the study prior to the meeting, and this meeting will not be public.
