DUBOIS – A DuBois man is accused of being under the influence of narcotics following an incident at the DuBois Mall.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office Oct. 5, Gregory Raymond Charles, 35, 19 ½ Olive Ave., DuBois, is charged buy the Sandy Township police with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and one summary traffic charge.
According to the affidavit, officers were called to the parking lot of the DuBois Mall for a report about a man slumped over his steering wheel. When the officers arrived, they allegedly found a pick-up truck with fogged-over windows. As the officers approached the vehicle, they allegedly saw several syringes and ‘stamp bags’ laying on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
The man, later identified as Charles, woke up and the officers asked Charles to shut off the vehicle and put it in park. The officers spoke to Charles, who allegedly told them his employer had let him go early from work. The officers allegedly noticed that Charles had red eyes and sluggish speech. Charles allegedly told police that he had injected heroin about four hours ago.
After failing field sobriety tests, Charles was placed under arrest and the officers searched the vehicle and found numerous empty ‘stamp bags,’ used needles and three ‘stamp bags’ that contained a substance that tested positive for heroin.
Charles was then taken to Penn Highlands DuBois for blood testing, which was positive for heroin.
