COOPER TOWNSHIP – One man is dead after a small aircraft crash at approximately 6:35 p.m. Monday on Rolling Stone Road in Cooper Township, according to the state police at Clearfield.
State police identified the man as Blair Murray, 83, of Kylertown. Murray reportedly crashed his Ultra Light Freebird Classic aircraft near his private runway.
Murray was an experienced pilot, according to Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris. “And, he was just recently re-certified,” he said. Morris said an autopsy has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Morris said that the state police at Clearfield conducted the investigation at the accident scene, and the wreckage has been transported to a secure facility for examination.
“We will be checking everything to see if something medically happened [to Murray] or if it was something structurally with the aircraft,” said Morris.
