Ben & Jerry’s co-founder shares Bernie Sanders ice cream idea

If Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders were an ice cream flavor, it would be called “Bernie’s yearning” and “it would be a giant chocolate chip on top of the ice cream that covers the entire top,” said Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream co-founder Ben Cohen.

“The giant chip on the top represents all the wealth that’s gone to the top 1% of the population over the last 10 years. And the way you eat it is, you whack it with your spoon and then you mix it around,” Cohen told CNN’s Carol Costello Monday.

Ben & Jerry’s is a Vermont-based company and Cohen and his business partner Jerry Greenfield are longtime Sanders supporters. They endorsed Sanders in May and participated in their fellow Vermonter’s launch of his presidential bid in Burlington.

Costello asked if the ice cream itself would be mint-flavored “so you could feel the Bern.”

“That’s an idea! So, the rest of it we’ll say all mint,” Cohen said.

Previously, Cohen shared another Sanders ice cream idea with Business Insider.

It would be called “Bernie’s Rebellion” and would include “all good things.”

“I mean, there might be some chocolate chips molded in the shape of a cap that you wear for graduation to symbolize his stance in favor of free college education and reduced student loan rates,” he said. “I think that there might be equal numbers of peanuts and pecans to symbolize his initiatives to reduce economic inequality.”
