Sandy Twp. Receives State Aid

DUBOIS – Sandy Township will only have to pay $56,482 toward police and non-uniform pensions out its total of $205,474.

Sandy Township was provided $148,992 in state aid for the pensions.  It was also provided $66,786.45 for the township fire departments for insurance payments.

Sandy Township awarded the job of Community Development Consulting Services for 2015-17 to Stiffler-McGraw.  They were the only bidder and are the existing provider.

“[The cost] didn’t change much,” said Township Manager Dave Monella when asked about any changes.

The supervisors approved Resolution 17-2015, which amended wording regarding how township employees could apply their health benefits.

Township employees get their health benefits through Municipal Authority Group Services.  When the agreement was written MAGS only offered Highmark Services.

According to Monella, UPMC is offering through MAGS its network at the same cost as an alternative.  For example, under the previous wording, if the public works crew members decided they wanted to go with the UPMC plan, the administrative staff would have to agree to switch, as well.

The new wording will allow the individual employees to select the Highmark or UPMC sub-plans individually. However, it will be under the condition that if the UPMC sub-plan ends up costing more, that extra cost will have to come out of pocket.
