Mike Huckabee plans to visit the Mexico border this weekend and vowed to secure it within one year if he wins the White House.
The former Arkansas governor was invited to tour the border near San Diego on Saturday by former Congressman Duncan Hunter, his campaign told CNN on Wednesday.
“Governor Huckabee will address the media and outline his plan to secure the border within the first year of his presidency,” Huckabee spokesperson Alice Stewart said. “The governor has always said that the number one priority in immigration reform is securing the border first.”
Huckabee previously told CNN that he favored “reasonable approaches” to immigration reform.
“I’m for some reasonable approaches to immigration that start with a secure border,” he said.
“The fact that people say that we can’t secure the border, that’s nonsense,” he added. “This country can do it if we want to. You just have to have a president that’s committed to it.”
Donald Trump and Ben Carson also have toured the border.
