Esther Lane-Magruder, formerly of Clearfield, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 surrounded by family members in the home of her daughter Connie Maycock in Harvest, Ala.

She is survived by her four children, Walter Rodney Lane of Terra Alta, W.Va., Dr. Robert Ellsworth Lane (Nancy Kreider) of Philadelphia, Constance Lane Maycock (Pastor Antoine Maycock) of Harvest, Ala.; and Shelley Lane Pelote (Dr. Edward Pelote) of Nashville, Tenn.

Eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive her, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born at home in Altoona on July 26, 1921 to the late Ellsworth H. and Irene B. Jones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Ellsworth B., Irvin R., and William P. Jones, and by her two husbands, Walter C. Lane of Clearfield and William F. Magruder of Washington, D.C.

She graduated from Altoona High School in the class of 1939. After marrying and moving to Clearfield in the 1940’s, she worked for a number of businesses, including the Leavy Funeral Home and Sparkle Laundry.

She later worked for Clearfield County Government distributing surplus food in the early 1960’s and subsequently served as the administrator of the county nursing home at Clear Haven.

She sold Tupperware for a number of years, traveling to homes in many small towns and rural areas in northwest central Pennsylvania to hold “Tupperware parties.”

For the last 20 years of her professional life, she worked as an Equal Employment Opportunity Officer for PennDOT, the position from which she retired.
In 1999, she became a Christian and joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her membership was with the Clearfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1056 Park Ave. Ext. In 2005, she moved to Huntsville, Ala., where she lived in the homes of her two daughters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the First Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1303 Evangel Dr., Huntsville, Ala. The service can be viewed live online at http://first-sda-church.org/prod/.

A graveside service will held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Clearfield, at 12 p.m. Sunday.
