State Police Investigating Fire at Vacant Apartment Complex in Punxsutawney

PUNXSUTAWNEY – State police at Punxsutawney are still investigating the cause of an apartment complex fire that occurred during the early morning hours Thursday at 214 S. Gilpin Street in Punxsutawney.

According to state police, a neighbor discovered the fire at 2:30 a.m. It occurred at a three-story apartment complex that had been vacant since this past February or March. State police noted the apartment complex was without utilities.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit was requested to investigate and determine the origin and cause of the fire. That investigation is currently ongoing, state police said, noting anyone with information is asked to contact the state police at Punxsutawney at 814-938-0510.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Damage to the apartment complex was estimated at $200,000, according to state police.
