How Shonda Rhimes lost 117 lbs

FILE-Shonda Rhimes, creator and executive producer of "Grey's Anatomy", "Scandal", "Private Practice" and "How to Get Away with Murder" accepts her induction into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas on Monday, April 13, 2015.

With so many hit TV shows this season, Shonda Rhimes has a heavy schedule.

But one thing the creator of “Scandal,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Grey’s Anatomy” has shed is weight: 117 pounds, to be exact. Rhimes told “Extra” that she did it for her three young daughters.

“I just decided I was gonna get it together and get healthy,” the 45-year-old producer said. “I have some little kids, and I want to be around for them.”

Rhimes said she simply adjusted her diet and worked out. She doesn’t forbid herself any foods, just eats smaller portions.

And while it wasn’t fun, it was clearly effective.

“I changed everything I ate — and I hated all of that — and then I hate exercising, and I did that too, and I hated it the whole time,” the showrunner said.
