Jeb Bush campaign makes $7.8 million ad buy

Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign confirmed Monday it will drop millions on television ads in the early voting states at the start of next year, when voters begin to pay more attention to the upcoming primaries and caucuses.

The move comes as Bush struggles to gain traction in recent polls, both in New Hampshire and nationally.

According to the campaign, which described the buy as a “first pass for our long-term approach,” it has reserved $7.8 million in January and February for TV spots. Iowa will get $1 million of the pot, while $4.6 million will be spent in New Hampshire and $2.2 million in South Carolina.

This amount adds to the $500,000 that the campaign has already spent on its first buy, which ran this month in the Boston and New Hampshire area.

Bush will also be aided this fall and winter by at least $37 million in ads already announced by his super PAC, Right to Rise — $13 million of which will be reserved for January and February.
