Republican presidential candidates Carly Fiorina and Sen. Ted Cruz, as well as Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders swarmed late-night television Monday night, showcasing their more personal and humorous sides in a more casual format.
Here are their most memorable moments.
Carly Fiorina
Fiorina dropped in on Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show,” hot off a major rise in the polls that sees her now sitting in second place with 15% of support among Republican voters according to the latest CNN/ORC poll released Sunday.
Fiorina covered a lot on the show — everything from zinging GOP front-runner Donald Trump to sharing the ditty she sings to her dog, Snickers.
“My name is Snick and you’re going to have to carry me,” Fiorina sang.
And just over a week after Trump made his own “Tonight Show” debut as a presidential candidate, Fiorina took the chance to ding Trump, comparing him to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The two have kicked their feud into high gear since Trump made disparaging comments about Fiorina’s face in a Rolling Stone magazine profile.
Ted Cruz
Cruz offered a glimpse of his humor on Stephen Colbert’s still-fresh “Late Show,” joking about the size of the once-17, now-15 candidate Republican presidential primary field and the struggles of fundraising for a presidential run.
“You just have to surgically disconnect your shame sensor because you spend every waking moment asking people for money,” Cruz said.
But the second half of the interview turned more serious as Colbert — goaded on by an apparently liberal audience — challenged Cruz on his unshakably principled brand of conservatism and the Texas senator’s position on same-sex marriage.
The audience grew hostile and booed Cruz as he explained his opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, prompting Colbert to intervene on his guest’s behalf.
“No, no, guys, guys, however you feel, he’s my guest, so please don’t boo him,” Colbert said.
Bernie Sanders
Sanders waded through his at-times uneasy relationship with the black community and his self-declared socialism in a humorous segment with Larry Wilmore on “The Nightly Show” that also aired Monday night.
Sanders didn’t hold back on the humor, playing along with a facetious Wilmore who prodded Sanders on his ideology.
The exchange gave the Internet footage of Sanders saying the words “on fleek” and styling a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators.
