George F. Vail Jr., 60, of Philipsburg died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 at Kylertown.

Born Nov. 4, 1954 in Fort Riley, Kan., he was a son of Madeline Jean (Scott) Vail of Philipsburg and the late George F. Vail Sr.

He was a 1974 graduate of Philipsburg High School. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Mr. Vail was of the Methodist faith. He had been a long haul truck driver from 1975 to 2013. He drove for numerous trucking companies, including Shaffer and most recently, Tim Bainey Trucking.

He was a member of the Clearfield Mooseriders, the Clearfield Moose Lodge No. 97, the Curwensville Moose Lodge No. 268 and the Philipsburg VFW Louis P. Jenkins Post No. 3450. He was also a former member of Hope Fire Company No 2.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, restoring vehicles and spending time with his family. He was an avid fan of Penn State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Tyler Vail of State College; two daughters, Jamie Stanton and her husband, Joel of Philipsburg and Courtney Kowach and her husband, David of State College; and a granddaughter, Mia Kowach.

He is also survived by two brothers, Robert E. Vail Sr. and his wife, Amy of Houtzdale and Mark E. Vail of Kill Devil Hills, NC; an aunt, Joan Peters and her husband, Calvin of Wallaceton; seven nieces and nephews, Robert E. Vail Jr., Seth Vail, Shelby Vail, Curt Vail, Dennis Myers Jr., Shawn Myers and Brittany Myers; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; his paternal grandparents, George O. and Nancy (Vaughn) Vail; his maternal grandparents, Robert G. and Anna Mae (Beatty) Scott; and an aunt, Mildred Darmiento.

A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Vail’s life will be held at a later date and time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, PA 16866 to help with funeral expenses.
