Emmys celebs target Donald Trump for onstage jokes

Republican front-runner Donald Trump wasn’t at the Emmys Sunday night, but he still made a big splash there — as the punchline.

Host Andy Samberg, “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus and comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele all found plenty to work with, poking fun at the billionaire businessman and his comments.

“Donald Trump is running for president, to the delight of uncles everywhere. I’ve got to say, sure Donald Trump seems racist,” Samberg said. He then paused as if he was going to deliver a punchline, but left it at that, saying “Let’s see, what else?”

Later, while accepting her award for Best Actress in a Comedy, Louis-Dreyfus delivered a “statement” in character, saying, “What a great honor it must be for you to honor me tonight.” She then closed it, saying “Sorry, Donald Trump said that.”

And Key and Peele, who have famously lampooned President Barack Obama on their show, went through a bit where they appeared to be talking about the cut-throat nature of reality television before saying, “But enough about the Republican National Convention, let’s get to the award.”
