Jim Clyburn to host Democrat 2016ers at South Carolina forum Nov. 6

The South Carolina Democratic Party will host a presidential candidate forum with Rep. Jim Clyburn on Nov. 6, according to the executive director of the South Carolina Democratic Party Jason Perkey.

Perkey confirmed the details of the forum to be held at Winthrop University to CNN on Friday, ahead of an afternoon Heritage Action-sponsored forum in the upstate for Republican candidates.

South Carolina Democratic Chairman Jaime Harrison previewed the forum during a presidential primary talk at the University of South Carolina on Tuesday evening, but refrained from giving details other than the fact that the SCDP and Clyburn would be hosting a forthcoming event.

All of the Democratic presidential candidates will be invited to the forum, which will focus on the “new south,” according to Perkey.

The Democratic National Committee has signed off on the event.

“Jaime ran into Debbie [Wasserman-Schultz] last night in Washington, D.C., and she confirmed with him that the DNC will partner on it,” Perky said, adding that the DNC is providing the state party with support, “but will not be co-branding” on this.

“I’m thrilled that the South Carolina Democratic Party and Congressman Clyburn are hosting this important Democratic presidential candidate forum and that we were able to help,” Wasserman-Schultz said in a statement Friday. “This will be one of many opportunities to hear from our party’s candidates.”
